Why your social media page is more important than your website.

social media video marketing

Social media isn’t for everyone but if you’re a business owner then it is something you really need to embrace. If you want your business to survive and grow then getting on social media and doing it well is no longer a choice, its a necessity.

Did you know that 73% of consumers make a buying decision based on a brands social media presence? Personally, I have made a lot of purchases through Instagram ads. They are targeted directly at me based on my interests. The videos make me stop the scroll and I pay attention to them because they are so well targeted to my interests. Small businesses can now easily be present among major companies. My Instagram video ads can pop up alongside a Nike advert. Consumers are getting to know, like and trust me through my social media videos.

Now don’t get me wrong here. I’m not saying your website is dead in the water. I am constantly updating my website. I am adding blogs regularly and updating copy to evolve with my business. But, before consumers visit my website they are checking me out on social media. A lot of people immediately think of Facebook when they think of social media. Some businesses don’t have a personal profile so why would they have a business profile? Because your consumers are on there, that’s why! But think beyond just Facebook. Where do your consumers hang out? Linkedin? Find the channel that works best for your business and push it, hard.

I have recently started upping my game using Google my business. See previous blog post here.

I have been reaching out to all my clients and asking for reviews. I always make sure I reply to all those reviews and drop keywords in there and describe the kind of work we did for that client. It’s not all straightforward with the work Exposed Wolf provide. We are a video production company in Sydney but we also do photography. We can provide animations, motion graphics, editing, studio hire, strategy planning, timelapse and we do it all well. I have been told in the past to niche down and only provide one service but if you can help out a client and save them money then they will come back to you time and time again. I also add daily photographs and videos to my Google page. I am seeing incredible results from this and enquiries have gone through the roof. The important thing is to have a bank of content. That might sound easy for me being a content creator but it is very difficult to capture yourself. This is why we advise our clients to shoot bulk content. Get as much in the camera in a day as you can. That way you have months of content to use from just a day’s shoot. If our client is speaking on camera then we will take some professional headshots whilst we are there so they can update their Linkedin or post to social. We will also take some behind the scenes shots for them. It’s all about content, content, content.

The more content you put out the more Google will love you. I constantly get approached by SEO companies telling me they will get me to page one of Google but I don’t need them. I make sure my social media is constantly being fed by quality content. It shows my clients how busy I am and makes them want to work with me. They see that competitors are boosting there game by investing in video content. And that’s what it is. It’s an investment. Your marketing budget’s main focus should be video. Gone are the days of advertising where you pay a fortune in the hope that somebody calls you. Waiting for the phone to ring will not get you anywhere. Invest in video. Invest in yourself.

Your social presence takes time to grow. You will get disheartened at first when you don’t get much engagement but the more you do the more results you will see. This can be a blessing though. If you aren’t too comfortable on camera then don’t worry as you won’t get as many viewers early on. But what you are doing is banking your content. You are growing your authority and Google is watching you. They see you are serious about content and they rank you higher. Suddenly you are at the top with this huge bank of video and photography content and you are so busy that you have forgotten what it was like being so nervous on camera. Welcome to the layer cake!
