So what is the best way to use video to show off your personality? A lot of people think that if they stand in front of the camera and talk about a certain topic then people will get to know them. That’s all well and good if you are great on camera, and I mean great. Comfortable, confident with jokes thrown in. But, the average Joe is not like that unfortunately and it takes time to reach that level. Most people are stiff and nervous and probably reading from an autocue.
So what can you do to really show who you are? The answer is to shoot behind the scenes videos! Whip out your iPhone and document what you are up to. Viewers love to see this and it shows who you really are, raw and unedited. If you are about to jump on camera professionally then film yourself before you go on the big camera. Tell people how you are feeling, how excited you are to bring this content to them. If you are nervous, tell people! It makes you human and makes people warm to you knowing that you are just like everyone else. You are not this confident robot who is just out to make sales.
Maybe you are in your car waiting to go to an important meeting. Let people know that exciting projects are on the horizon and for them to keep their fingers crossed for you. When you come out of the meeting tell people how it went and that you can’t wait to get started on this new project. You don’t have to say what it is exactly. You can just drop hints. Tell them “all will be revealed”! This gets people hooked and the next time you post they will be more likely to watch as this could be the big reveal! Keep dropping bread crumbs like this for your viewers. It creates a story for your life. It shows how busy you are without being hey look at me how successful I am.
Maybe you are recording some professional video. The iPhone has a great timelapse mode. You can place it behind the camera and then later your viewers can see what a productive day you have had at superseded. Show off the cameras and gear on the set. Maybe you bought some flowers for the shoot. Show them off. This can be done with imagery too. Boost your Instagram game with behind the scenes content.
Instagram and Facebook stories are huge right now. Viewers love them! They are short and snappy and you can get your message across to followers with ease. Shoot your videos in portrait to take advantage of the extra room. Adding text, stickers and music can really help your personality to pop! You can even get high-quality professional videos done that you can add to your stories.
It has never been easier to reach a large audience at such a low cost. Make sure to mix your videos with professional and homemade. We want to show your personality but you also need to prove you are serious and can deliver the goods that you are selling.
