Boost Viewer Engagement – How to keep people watching for longer

We are all being bombarded by content from all different directions. As a result, engagement levels are dropping due to viewer’s moving on to the next video in their scroll hole. So with so much noise and competition out there, how do you keep people tuned into your video long enough for you to deliver your full message?

Well, there is a simple trick to keep viewer’s engaged long enough to hear your all-important call to action.
It’s a little something called a progress barDon’t worry you don’t have to be an editing guru to make one. It’s that line that lets viewers know when your video will end. For social media channels such as Linkedin, this is great. Linkedin automatically plays videos when you land on them in the feed. This means there is no tapping involved for the viewer. So when they can instantly see that your video is relatively short, they will more than likely hang around to hear what you have to say.

Combine this with a catchy headline and subtitles and your viewer will be sucked in. Make sure you upload your video directly to the social site you are on. Don’t upload to Youtube and then share that across your channels. Youtube is its own channel. It is also the world’s second-biggest search engine. Because of this make sure you have strong keywords in your description so that prospects can actually find your video. I’ll go into this more in another blog.

So back to the progress bar. What about placement? Some people put them at the top, the bottom or 360 around your video. It all comes down to personal preference and how adept you are in the edit suite.

By clearly showing the video length, your prospects are more likely to hang around and hear what you have to say. After all, you have already helped them out with your other valuable bits of content so they may as well give you another 15 seconds before they move on. The beauty is you have held their attention to the end.

Enough time to hit them with your amazing new offer!!

Not sure how to add a progress bar? Check out the video below and it will give you an idea of how it works. Every editing platform is different but there are some key fundamentals that can be applied no matter what suite you use.
